Call for Artists: Crossing Borders @ OACC

Call for Entry: Crossing Borders

Temporary Artist’s Exhibition at The Oakland Asian Cultural Center

Exhibition dates: May 16th and May 24th

Entry Deadline: Thursday April 12th 2012

The Oakland Asian Cultural Center is pleased to offer an opportunity for artists to exhibit their work in the heart of Chinatown. As we continual seek to expand, define, and grow the idea of Asian-American artwork, we are searching for artists whose work reflects ideas related to the physical bodies and/or cultural borders and how are these borders/boundaries altered or crossed…

All local artists of Asian descent or who exhibit an Asian or Pacific Islander form of art are encouraged to apply. Artwork will be on display for two evenings during the visual art opening on May 16th, as well as Lit Night on May 24th.  Artists will be asked to drop off and pick up their work in person at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center.

The exhibit can provide a springboard for emerging artists to establish their work in a critical contemporary art context.

Juror: Pamela Ybañez is a conceptual artist who endeavors to share knowledge and create environments for open dialogue.  Originally from the Philippines she has lived in the U.S. for 25 years and continues to explore ideas of racial politics in her work.  She has exhibited in New York, Pittsburgh, California, and Hawaii.

About the Oakland Asian Cultural Center: OACC builds vibrant communities through Asian and Pacific Islander American (APIA) arts and culture programs that foster inter-generational and cross-cultural dialogue, cultural identity, collaborations, and social justice. Located on the 2nd floor of the Pacific Renaissance Plaza in Oakland’s Chinatown: 388 9th St # 290 Oakland.
