Project Transit, Open Call for Artists
Project Transit is conducting an open call for artists whose work focuses on documentation, illustration, narrative, liberation, and/or challenges of gender, sexuality, and sexual orientation. The show will exhibit the breaking down of gender and sexuality boundaries, especially in contrast to the experiences of LGBT refugees, who are fleeing oppression and violence.
The Rock Paper Scissors Collective, located in Oakland, CA, will host the show in November for a month of art, programs, and community. The RPS Collective is an ideal place for this show because of the energy that already exists within the gallery to further propel dialogue.
Artists of all gender and sexual orientation persuasions who create visual art, media art, sculpture, zines, performance and onwards should all apply.
Benefits of participation include: exposure (including Art Murmur), association with Project Transit’s mission, and the opportunity to sell work and network.
Please submit 6 images of your work (or whatever media form represents your work) to projecttransit2011@gmail.com by September 30, 2011.
You also must fill out an online application and artist statement: http://www.projecttransit.info/#!submit
Deadline: September 30th, 2011

About Project Transit: Project Transit’s mission is to facilitate an arts exhibition and open dialogue that will encourage our community to explore, reflect upon, and consider the experiences of others, as well as their own experiences with gender and sexual orientation. Project Transit is inspired by the Organization for Refuge, Asylum, & Migration (ORAM)s advocacy for refugees fleeing sexual or gender based violence and by the Jewish Family & Childrens Services of the East Bay (JFCS/East Bay)s LGBT refugee resettlement program, which connects LGBT refugees with community in the Bay Area.
